ROCKING MEMPHIS

Memphis is justifiably famous for the varied styles of music that have made it famous.  Blues, Rockabilly, Rock ‘N’ Roll, and Rhythm and Blues have all made their initial stabs in Memphis, Tennessee.  But beginning in the 1960’s, another type of rock music started making its way out of the studio and onto vinyl.  A small cadre of young Memphis players, influenced more by The Beatles and the “British Invasion” started recording a different style of music than the Sun Records or Stax Records guys had been doing.  Very little of this music was successful, or even released to the public, during its time of inception.  However, a select few were noticed, and over time, have become extremely popular.  Led by the groups Big Star and Cargoe, over the years a growing number of very dedicated fans has grown up across the world, hungering for more of this “different” Memphis music.

Now Lucky Seven Records has set about satisfying that hunger.  This collection, ROCKIN MEMPHIS: 1960’s-1970’s Vol. I presents a wild assortment of Memphis groups and artists at their “rockinest”!  Artists such as The Hot Dogs, Cargoe, The Short Kuts, Van Duren, Terry Manning, Thomas Dean Eubanks, Rock City, Smith Perkins Smith, Big Star itself, Martin Mull, and many others are presented here, and many of the tracks for the very first time!  Indeed, this is probably one of the best rock and roll compilation CD’s ever released, yet many of the tracks were unknown until now.  Additionally, this CD serves to present a sample of the many CD releases to come on Lucky Seven, as complete albums are soon to be released from some of these very artists!

If you like to rock; if you want to roll, then the amazing collection ROCKIN MEMPHIS: 1960’s-1970’s Vol. I is for you!
